Primary 6/7 of St Fergus School, Aberdeenshire have achieved stage 1 and 2 of
the R.Y.A. youth sailing scheme at Peterhead Sailing Club.
Last summer we had four sessions. We learnt how to tack and jibe, row the
boat and put up a sail.
This year, over the last few weeks we have been learning how to use toppers
and most of the time we have been successful. We learned how to rig the boat
and tie lots of different knots. We are now able to capsize and right the
boat and we can crew effectively. We also know the port and starboard rule
and can name the parts of the sail.
The R.Y.A. paid for stage one and The Cashback for Communities sponsored stage
two of the scheme. Sponsorship from these groups allowed us to enjoy the
wonderful experience of learning how to sail. We are very grateful for the
opportunity and would like to thank everyone who helped us.
