Racing

At Peterhead Sailing Club we have an active race programme.   On Sundays we run 3 races with the first start at 11.00am.   We run 4 series a year and also trophy races.   Please check the calendar below for information and also for race officer and rescue duties.

We also run Novice Racing for people with less experience on Friday evenings, to coincide with Fun Fridays.   The start for this is approximately 7.30pm, but there will be a coaching session on land first, starting from 6.30pm.

Average Lap Scoring system 

Because of the wide range of boats sailed we use the average lap system.  This allows all boats to stay on the water for roughly the same time.  All boats sail round the course until the finish signal, the S flag, is hoisted. The finishing time for each boat at the end of the next full lap is logged to the nearest second.  The corrected time is then calculated by:

            Elapsed Time (seconds) x 1000

            Number of laps x Handicap (PY)
