Sailing Courses 2012
Many of our courses follow an RYA syllabus. In order to gain the certificate students need to
complete the syllabus. If for
any reason (e.g. lack of wind) this appears unlikely, students will be warned
about this during the course. We
do however offer some non- certificate courses, which will improve your skills
with a more flexible syllabus.
A certain amount of water confidence is important when taking part in sailing or
indeed any other watersport. Therefore we require that all
participants should be
confident in the water wearing a buoyancy aid / lifejacket. Juniors (Ages 8-16)
Most of the junior courses will use optimists or toppers; little people go in oppies, bigger people go in toppers! The RYA junior scheme is very flexible with space in the log book to get each bit ticked off as soon as it is achieved. When all bits get ticked it is time to get a certificate. The junior scheme covers stages 1-4. We also offer summer holiday junior racing and improvers courses for those who can already sail. All junior courses start at 10.00am and run till 4.00pm. Annual membership of the club for juniors is £15. This is included in the price of all junior courses. If already a member, please deduct this from your payment. Pease note the age bands for each course. If you have any queries, please get in touch. Adults (Age 14+)Adult beginner courses are normally taught in wayfarers although there may be opportunities to try other boats such as toppers. The wayfarer is a real thoroughbred dinghy, popular with cruising sailors, racing sailors and also schools. It is well mannered and seaworthy, great for taking first steps sailing, but also for bigger adventures. More advanced courses will use the Laser 2000 in addition to the other boats. For
beginners, we offer RYA Level 1 Start Sailing , Level 2 Basic Skills,
Level 3 Better Sailing. For those wishing to further their skills we
offer RYA Seamanship Skills, Sailing with Spinnakers, Start Racing and Performance
Sailing, and non - certificate improvers
courses which have no specific syllabus, but the ability to be flexible to
students needs
If you are not a member of Peterhead Sailing
Club, you will need to become a temporary member for the duration of the course.
The club has set temporary membership for adults at £10. This is
included in the course fee. If you decide after your course to join
the club, you would then be eligible for a £10 discount off membership costs.
LogbooksRYA logbooks are available from us for both the adult and junior scheme, and are the best way of knowing what is in the syllabus, and getting the sections recorded once you have completed them. Booking Conditions A course will not run if there are not enough applicants on it to make it
financially viable. We aim to
give as much warning as possible in these circumstances. We reserve the right to cancel a course due to lack of

No refunds will be given for an individual failing to complete a course.
In the event of you requiring a cancellation, we will do our utmost to
sell your place again and if successful, a full refund will be given.
